‘You are what you eat!’ Food connects us with our cultural heritage, whatever that may be and features strongly in Centrala Gallery's Hybrid Landscapes Resident Artist Karen Babayan’s art, poetry and fiction writing. In what promises to be an extra tasty, informal and unusual session, you are invited to bring a special dish from your family cookbook and share your food stories with Karen and other participants. This is followed by an Armenian Folk Dance workshop with Shakeh Major Tchilingirian 2-5pm. An internationally acclaimed solo dance artist, choreographer and teacher, Shakeh's unique and accessible interpretations highlight the power and spirituality of Armenian folk dances. Shakeh conducts workshops regularly in many cities in Europe, the US, Turkey, Morocco, UAE and Brazil. This workshop is suitable for both absolute beginners as well as those familiar with Armenian shoorch bar or circle dance. In this workshop, we will explore folk dances and their regional variations.

Shakeh says: “Song and dance are significant expressions of the Armenian ethos, especially for Armenians living in dispersion. Armenian dance provides a living and evolving link with the historic homeland and present day Armenia. Love and yearning for the homeland or the beloved are central themes in both Armenian folk songs and dances.”
